Willard Thompson Coast Guard

The United States Coast Guard is a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. The Coast Guard is a maritime, military, multi-mission service. It operates under the Department of Homeland Security during peacetime, and can be transferred to the Department of the Navy by the President at any time, or by Congress during war time.

Willard Thompson served in the Coast Guard from 1993 - 1997 on board the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Diligence (WMEC616) stationed in Wilmington, N.C. Willard played an active and vital role in rescuing Haitians and Cubans from the dangerous and open seas during that time.

The USCG was founded by Alexander Hamilton as the Revenue Marine first, and later as the Revenue Cutter Service in 1790. It is the United States' oldest continuous seagoing service.

The Coast Guard motto is Semper Paratus ("Always Ready").
